 | Fong credits the Christian tradition, specifically Augustine, for his
observation of human sin. The latter becomes Kant's "root of radical
evil," and Marx's "contradiction." Collectively, since we are
a civilization directed to survival, we are selfish and cruel. Only by
recognizing it, can civilization go on to "liberate man from the
cruelty of the law of the jungle." Civilization, defines Fong, is the
pursuit of survival without the cruelty. Peter Fong's book bears the
powerful message of combating evil with good, vice with virtue, and sin with
salvation. There is no one else on the scientific scene today who gives
classic moral categories meaning.

 | For several decades a number of courageous thinkers from physical and
biological sciences have undertaken a most difficult and important task: to
apply insights from the natural sciences to the understudying of the most
complex of the known systems: human beings and their social systems. Dr.
Peter Fong has joined their ranks in the publication of this remarkable
book. This work is concerned with the origin, nature and evolution of
society, government and morals in the light of a general evolution theory,
and system theory concepts such as information. It does not draw on the
natural sciences alone but also on religion, literature and other sources of
ancient and contemporary wisdom. One of the rewards of reading this book is
the contact it provides with a fertile, stimulation and deeply moral mind.
The book may later become a part of the world's wisdom literature. |
